DISCO S2E12 "Such Sweet Sorrow" Review By AnswerMan

 Horrible:Meh:Adequate:Good:Fantastic

Blowing up Discovery proves unfruitful. The data has become part of the ship in such a manner that can use the ship to protect itself from annihilation. Scrubbing that plan, they decide that the only way to keep the data out of the hands of Section 31 is to send the ship into the future. They do have that time crystal, and the plans for a Red Angel suit.

Turns out, the Red Angel kind of is Michael after all. With her sharing DNA with her mom, she will be piloting the suit, and it is apparent that she is the one leaving the signals. Speaking of which, we've got our fourth, which takes the crew to the dilithium rich planet of Tilly's friend Po from the short Trek "Runaway". Po helps with coming up with an on the fly method of generating the same power as supernova to activate the time crystal.

If this all feels a bit rushed, that's because it certainly is. In about a half an hour's time they're going to create a new Iron Man suit and unlock the secrets of the time crystal, two things that they really know nothing about. The plan is that Michael will open a wormhole, with the unmanned ship following on autopilot, dump the ship in the future, and then come back. Except, for reasons, we decide that she actually can't come back. Then most of the crew decides that they'll go with her. Tears are shed, goodbyes are exchanged, and here we go.

This is all done in a highly dramatized manner that works quite well. The only problem I see with the plan is that we all know that Spock definitely does not stay in the future. "Such Sweet Sorrow" is a Good episode of Trek, despite the fact that as I'm writing this I realize that there's honestly not much plot here. Just a lot of pulling at the heart strings. But in this case, it works.
