About

Mission

This site is brought to you ad-free as a labor of my love for all things Trek. My goal is to provide fun, down to earth, and entertaining reviews of all episodes of Trek (and maybe the movies too). I have no idea how long this will take, but it will probably be many years. I will poke a fair amount of fun wherever it is appropriate, but it is not my intention to make this a website where Trek is bashed. I love these shows, and I hope my reviews will show that.

All reviews contain spoilers. Each review is from the perspective of someone who is already familiar with the entire series. In other words, they are not typical first reactions, but rather incorporate the knowledge of the whole story, and are intended for an audience that holds the same perspective. I am not doing entire "re-watches" and reviewing these episodes in order. Instead I am keeping my regular watching habits, which involves watching whatever episode looks interesting to me, in whatever order I see fit, and I'll post reviews as I go. When I get to DS9 and Enterprise, this strategy may change as these series have sweeping story arcs. I do not get too bogged down into minutiae in my reviews, and I have no insights to offer on the behind-the-scenes making of the show type stuff.

My routine involves watching the episode, and then avoiding reading anything about them online until after I write my review. I may read the quick Wikipedia plot synopsis to remind me of some details if it's been a couple days, or check Memory Alpha just to get a proper spelling, but I NEVER read anyone else's reviews until mine is complete. In some rare cases, where it looks like I've made an error or grossly misunderstood an aspect of the show, I will make a correction. In at least one case, I changed some wording when I found that my review contained phrasing that was eerily similar to another one that I found.

Site Navigation

Because of the limitations of this platform, organizing into series and seasons is tricky. I have done my best to come up with a system that makes navigation easy.

First, I have gone with the episode numbering as it is found on Netflix. This just makes life easy for me. It does create some discrepancies though, as Netflix often combines two-parters into one episode, and therefore the official episode number may vary depending upon what source you're using. Since each review title contains the title of the episode, there shouldn't be any confusion.

Second, there is a coding to the post dates that contains the series, season, and episode. If you look at the site navigation bar, you have TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and DIS. Clicking on any one of these sorts the posts by series, and there you find all the episodes in order from newest to oldest. This was accomplished by playing with the post dates. All posts dated 2011 are TOS, 2012 are TAS, 2013 are TNG, 2014 are DS9, 2015 are VOY, 2016 are ENT, and 2017 are DIS. Then the month equates to the season, and the day the episode. So for instance, the first episode of TOS will have the date 2011-01-01. The 23rd episode of season 6 of DS9 will have the post date of 2014-06-23, and so on. With this system, finding a particular episode should be easy, and I will hopefully be adding widgets to aid in this as the site grows.

For posterity, all actual dates of publishing are incorporated at the bottom of each post.

About Me

I am not an expert on Trek canon, nor am I a writer. I'm just a guy who really enjoys these shows and has decided to put down my thoughts on them. Feel free to disagree with my conclusions, or to point out where I am just dead wrong. Please share your comments and thanks for reading!
