DISCO S2E5 "Saints of Imperfection" Review By AnswerMan

Horrible:Meh:Adequate:Good:Fantastic

First Horrible episode of Discovery. I don't give that rating to this series lightly, but after watching this episode twice, there's just nothing about this episode that is redeemable. None of it makes sense. First off, we get Spock-teased again. In the same manner that we thought we were going to see Spock but instead were given Amanda before, this time it's Mirror Georgiou that winds up being in the shuttle that we've been chasing for three weeks. Spock's nowhere around. Ugh. Again, I didn't ask to see Spock this season, but if you're going to do it, just do it already. This is getting ridiculous.

Second, Ash Tyler has been designated to Discovery as special liaison from Section 31. The man whose secret faked death is vital to keeping peace within the Klingon empire is now serving on the one ship where every single person will recognize him. How does this make sense? And why are they so hostile toward him? I know his character was complicated last season, but I seem to remember them parting on good terms.

Third, the whole mycelial network thing made no sense. So May brought Tilly there to help with a "monster" that is harming them. Her species is like insects here, they devour everything. But they can't devour the monster, because he has covered himself in tree bark that is harmful to them. But it's actually Culber, just protecting himself from them. He exists because Stamets brought his "energy" there with a kiss and a tear, and his body was re-assembled by the ant people, but now they're at war? They formed him, but now he is indestructible, and they are harmed by attacking him. He can't come back because his matter doesn't exist in Discovery's world, but he can be rematerialized by reusing the gooey pod transporter that brought Tilly to the network, and his indestructible body can then be reclaimed? If all that sounded stupid, it's because it is. I feel dumber for having to type that.

It all ends with Geogiou swearing that she wants what's best for Spock, despite logic dictating that this would be the case, and Pike being forced to team up with some Section 31 guy that he apparently has some history with in THE NEVER ENDING SEARCH FOR SPOCK.
