PICARD S1E4 "Absolute Candor" Review By AnswerMan

Horrible:Meh:Adequate:Good:Fantastic

Picard, knowing that he is dying, insists on making a stop off that really has nothing to do with the mission at hand. There is a planet with Romulan refugees that he once was responsible for. There is a band of female warrior assassin nun combat killer praying people who are the enemy of the Tal Shiar and wear their emotions on their sleeve. They helped to evacuate many Romulans to Mars, but after the synths attacked and Picard resigned, they just got forgotten about. Including Elnor.

Elnor is a boy raised by the killer nuns. He shouldn't have been, because Romulans with penises can never truly be a part of the organization, even though he has reached the highest level of training. This boy bonded with Picard, who abandoned him. The head murderous nun suggests that Picard take Elnor on his crazy mission to rescue Data's daughter. Elnor: "Yousonofabitch. I'm in!" Actually, Elnor states his desire to help Picard by decapitating the first person to threaten Picard's safety. Picard makes him swear that he won't do this again, unless of course Picard gives him the go ahead.

As they attempt to leave the planet, they are attacked, and a ship comes out of nowhere to help. As the ship breaks apart, the pilot is beamed onto the bridge, and it's Seven of Nine. Seven of Nine: "Yousonofabitch. I'm in!" Presumably. Do we have the main cast assembled enough yet that we can now begin to move the plot along? I hope so. I feel like this stop off (and therefore entire episode) was strictly to add two new characters to the regular cast. I understand that's necessary, and it actually was well done, but I'm just ready to start getting some answers about what's going on with the Borg cube, Data's daughter, the guy she's boning, Bruce Maddox, and Hugh.

I guess this is as good a place as any to voice an old pet peeve of mine. Hugh is Third of Five, but Seven is Seven of Nine. Shouldn't she be "Seventh" of Nine. I don't know, it just always annoyed me that it wasn't consistent. Anyway, this is an Adequate episode of Trek, and I actually think the Elnor character will be a neat addition, and of course Seven has always been a favorite character of mine. I also think that all the holographic crew mates are going to be a lot of fun. Now let's get going!
