This trek follows two little girls who both lose a parent in the android attack on Mars that we learn about in the Picard series. It starts with them both talking to their parents, then heading to school. The two do not get along at all, and spend all day antagonizing one another until it finally boils over into a fight. Like, a real fight. Holy shit do these two go at it. While waiting to speak to someone and receive their punishment, the two learn about the attack on Mars. They join hands and put the past behind them.
I like it when Trek shows us how things work on Earth (I assume this set on Earth, though it's not specifically stated). I like the buildings, and schools, and shuttles, and seeing how kids get to school and do normal stuff. While we don't have time to get to know the characters that well, the loss of their parents still stings. The fight is brutal, and we feel the frustrations that lead up to it. Plus this is an important forshadowing to what is going on with the Picard series. I liked this one.
