PICARD S1E6 "The Impossible Box" Review By AnswerMan

Horrible:Meh:Adequate:Good:Fantastic

Soji has been dreaming, which seems like an odd activity for an android. But not that odd for an android that doesn't know that they are an android. Narek believes that her dreams may be the answer to where her home world is, which is a question that we didn't really know existed until now. So he vows to his evil sister that he will continue boning Soji and not leaving her quarters until morning for as long as it takes to uncover the answer. Ah, the sacrifice.

Meanwhile, a drunken Raffi has called in a final favor and gotten Picard official Star Fleet credentials to visit the Artifact. He has a tough time on board, but soon gains his composure. Hugh shows him around and Picard learns of the work going on there. Hugh is reclaiming the Borg. Hugh is a citizen of the Federation, but the XBs (former Borg) are not. They have no rights. Picard makes the observation that Hugh is exposing the Borg drones for what they truly are...victims.

At the same time Narek has stepped things up a bit with Soji, and has her in some sort of Romulan meditation isolation chamber, talking her through her dreams. He gets out of her that her home world has two red moons and constant lightning. Then he tries to kill her. But he seems genuinely heartbroken about doing it. I still don't buy Narek as a bad guy. I think he'll turn. But the danger elevation activates Soji and she becomes all badass and escapes, with the help of Picard and Hugh who leads them to the Borg Queen's special secret transporter. Oh and, Elnor shows up just in time to kill some people to help out. He stays behind to make sure Picard and Soji's getaway is clean.

"The Impossible Box" is a Good episode of Trek. Putting Picard back on a Borg ship was done with the proper amount of reverence that it deserved. Having Soji finally figure out that life is not as it seems was satisfying. And then there's Elnor, who is easily my favorite character from the series, and his seemingly confounding loyalty to protect Picard. All Good stuff.
