Picard and Soji make it to Nepenthe, where they find a wild child and an old cabin. Inside he finds two old friends, Troi and Riker. It's nice to see them, and frankly nice to see them together. They have a daughter, Kestra, and a deceased son. They moved to Nepenthe because of it's healing properties, but lost their son anyway, even though his condition could have been easily cured if not for the synthetic ban. Now they just hang out, raising their daughter, and making pizza that takes seven hours to prepare. We haven't seen Troi and Riker since the finale of Enterprise, and they haven't changed much, especially Chef Riker. The planet provides a quick sabbatical for Soji to process that she's an android, and attempt to figure out who to trust. Kestra helps her a great deal through this process. The girl that plays Kestra is very talented, and she easily becomes a super likable character.Elnor chooses to stay behind to help Hugh, but as soon as they hatch a plan, it is thwarted, and Hugh is killed. This is the series that brings back characters that you love and immediately kills them off. I can't help but think that killing off Hugh in the first season just has to be a mistake.
"Nepenthe" is a Good episode. Seeing old friends is nice, meeting Kestra was fun, and finding out why Agnes has been acting all weird is satisfying. Now it's off to Soji's "home planet" to see what's there. Count me in!Published February 7, 2021
